High-Ranking Guest at Inauguration SIDOR and E.ON Energy from Waste officially start operation of the newly constructed waste treatment plant in Leudelange
On 14 March 2011, Luxembourg waste management association SIDOR and E.ON Energy from Waste (EEW) jointly inaugurated the new construction of the SIDOR waste treatment plant in Leudelange.

A high-ranking guest from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg had announced that he was going to attend this ceremonial act. In the presence of His Royal Highness Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume von Luxemburg, Luxembourg's Minister Delegate for Sustainable Development and Infrastructure Marco Schank, SIDOR President Paul Helminger, Lay Assessor of the Municipality of Leudelange Lotty Roulling, and Dr Jörg Zunft, Member of the E.ON Energy from Waste AG Board, numerous guests from politics, economy and society attended the event.
"The new plant for thermal waste utilisation of SIDOR is an important contribution to ensuring safe disposal of waste in Luxembourg", Zunft said. "We, as the operator of the plant, contribute the know-how that we have gained over decades to this environmentally friendly waste treatment, and ensure that the plant will operate smoothly."

Time schedule kept
Construction of the new plant was started in October 2008. The first waste fire was ignited in June 2010, and with it initial operation began. In November 2010, normal operation of the plant was started, thus completing the test operation. The thermal waste utilisation plant has been running at full capacity since December 2010 and can incinerate up to 150,000 tons of waste per year. The energy released in the process is converted to 15 megawatt of electricity by means of combined power and heat generation. The set time schedule was kept.

SIDOR
Luxembourg waste management association SIDOR is responsible for the disposal of the residual waste from 36 municipalities in the centre and the south of Luxembourg. It is also the owner of the country's only incinerator. Approximately 70 percent (345,000 inhabitants) of the Luxembourg population make use of the services provided by SIDOR.
