As part of the E.ON Energy from Waste plant association, E.ON Energy from Waste Helmstedt GmbH is one of the largest incineration plants in Germany. With a capacity of 525,000 metric tons and its own railway siding, the plant provides a facility for safe disposal for eight neighbouring administrative districts as well as for commercial and private deliverers.

The plant was first put into operation in 1998 and extended by a third incineration line in 2005. Many synergetic effects arise from the close proximity of the Buschhaus site to the adjacent power station. Alternative fuels such as sewage sludge and animal meal are used in addition to brown coal. This ensures a broad spectrum of safe disposal.

Good accessibility via motorway (A2) and several federal highways (Bundesstraßen) allow convenient delivery.
